Tags and dynamic segments: how to organize your subscriber list

4 min read

Tags

On the Tags page you can rename a tag, merge duplicates, or delete ones you no longer use. Clicking a tag shows you the subscribers who have it.

A tag can be applied to one subscriber, in bulk to several at once, automatically during a CSV import (the tags column), or automatically when a subscriber submits a signup form that has tags attached.

Segments

A dynamic segment is a set of saved rules. As you build the rules, the preview shows in real time how many subscribers match.

  • Has at least one of the tags
  • Does not have the tags
  • Has all the tags
  • Subscribed on or after a date
  • Subscribed on or before a date
  • Custom field is (compares a value from metadata)
  • Clicked in an email after a date
  • Received at least N emails

Rules are grouped into ALL (every condition must be true) or ANY (one is enough). You can combine both groups for finer filtering.

Start quickly from a template

  • New subscribers: subscribed in the last 30 days
  • Older subscribers: subscribed more than 6 months ago
  • By tag: have at least one tag you choose

Segments recalculate automatically as the list changes. You do not need to rebuild them by hand after every import or new tag.

The email column is required; name, tags, and metadata are optional. At the end you see how many subscribers were imported, skipped as duplicates, or rejected with an error.
