How to create and turn on an automation

4 min read

A client's Flows page has two sections: the scheduled newsletter (recurring, on a fixed calendar) and Automation Flows, which are sequences triggered by subscriber actions.

Create a new automation

Click Create Flow and give it a name (for example Re-engagement Campaign). A unique identifier is generated for the automation automatically, then you click Configure to add steps to it.

The activation toggle stays off until you configure at least one step for the automation.

Turning on and off

If the automation has active subscribers enrolled, turning it off asks for explicit confirmation, because it pauses their sequence. Deleting an automation that has active subscribers is permanent and cannot be undone.

Skip weekend

When the Skip weekend toggle is on, sends scheduled for the weekend are pushed to the following Monday. We recommend leaving it off for the welcome automation and for abandoned cart recovery, so the subscriber gets the email right away instead of with a delay.

Metrics on each automation card

  • Steps: how many steps the automation has configured
  • Emails Sent: total emails sent through this automation
  • Active: subscribers currently in the sequence
  • Completed: subscribers who have finished the whole automation
  • Open Rate and Click Rate: the automation's own performance
